Angela: Hello and welcome to Two Hearts True Healing! I’m Angela Stansell, your host for this episode, “Out of the Mouths of Babes.” Jacinta Wick and I decided to take a bit of a break for Christmastime, so we decided to pre-record some content for you this past December. I hope you and yours are doing well and you’re enjoying yourself. And if not, hopefully this episode will warm your heart a bit and bring a smile to your face.
Up until the past couple of weeks, we’ve been focusing on the 14 rules of Ignatian discernment, which can get a bit sobering, so today we have something a bit more lighthearted for you: A collection of answers to the question “What do you want others to know about God?” from kids. We’ll start with the youngest and work our way up!
First, we have one from a little buddy who’s almost two years old! He says, simply, “Jesus, Mary.”
And from a 3-year-old, the answer to the question “What do you want others to know about God?” was “He’s way up high!”
We have a number of four-year-olds who answered. One said, “I want them to know that God made all the animals.”
And another: “I want people to follow God.”
Another said, “That He died for us. That He teached us. And He loves us. And He prayed in the Agony in the Garden. And He never stops loving us.”
Another said, “God is a Lamb. To bad guys I would say, God still loves you. Some bad guys go to Hell, but if you say you’re sorry you will go to Heaven.”
A 5-year-old answered, “That He’s powerful, and always by your side.”
On to the 6-year-olds. One said, “He loves you, and He wants you to turn to Him and not to heresy.”
Another: “They should know Him, love Him, and serve Him with their whole heart.”
Another said, “That He has existed before anyone else existed! And that there’s 3 different people in God: God, the Father; God, the Son; and God, the Holy Spirit.”
Another said, “I want people to know the Eucharist is God.”
We have a couple of 7-year-olds who answered. One responded, “God loves us more than anything.”
And the other said: “That we should praise Him.”
An 8-year-old answered, “There is only One God in Three Persons. God created the world, and Jesus came down to save us from sin. The Holy Spirit guides and helps us in our life from the time of the descent of the Holy Spirit up until now, and on and on. The Holy Spirit will keep guiding us, and it is our choice whether or not to follow His ways.
On to the 9-year-olds. One answered, “That God loves them. They are God’s children and He will always love them no matter how many sins they commit.”
Another: “Mary didn’t just give birth to Jesus but became the queen of the universe.”
Another: I think I would want them to know that God created the whole world, and I think it would be cool if they know that God performed miracles through Jesus, like healing the blind and stopping the storm in the sea!”
Another said, “That He created you and He loves you very much.”
We have a couple of 10-year-olds who answered. One said, “There’s only one God. He’s our Savior, and He came to die for us.”
And the other: “I want people to know that God is real, and He loves you more than anything in the universe.”
And one 12-year-old. She answered “I would tell them that God loves you now, even if you don’t know Him yet.”
What a beautiful collection. Children really have a way of helping us remember the important things. The simple truths and stating them in the way that only children can.
For the remainder of the episode I’ll be reading for you an excerpt of The Mystical City of God written by Venerable Mary of Agreda, Spain in the 1600’s. This is Chapter 4 of Book 4, the abridged version, titled “Christ Our Savior is born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem, Judea”.
